MILLBROOK, PA—Millbrook officials announced Thursday that the pothole on Water Street has been fully resolved. The fix was a yellow sign reading "BUMP."

"Residents asked us to do something about the hole, and we did something," said public works director Gene Haskell. "The hole is now an informed hole."

According to borough records, the pothole has appeared in 14 consecutive annual road reports. It has outlasted three council members and one paving contractor, and in 2024 it was briefly given its own mailbox.

Officials said the sign cost a fraction of what filling the hole would cost. They added that it has created "a culture of awareness" among drivers, who now brace before losing a hubcap.

"Before, you hit it by surprise," said council member Donna Reiss. "Now you hit it on purpose, with full knowledge. That's accountability."

The borough says it will review the sign's performance at the end of a 10-year pilot. If the pilot succeeds, the program could expand to the bridge.

At press time, the sign had fallen into the pothole. Officials are calling that "the system working as designed."
